A Tribute to John Kane
By Sam Smith
In celebration of a generous man
John was a kind and thoughtful man who gave so much to so many. He joined the Board of C-Change Scotland in 2014 on the recommendation of former Board Convenor (and fellow Labour Councillor) Malcolm Cunning. He was a long-standing member of the Finance and Risk committee and was Vice Convenor until last year. He was active on the Board of other local community organisations, Govan Housing Association, Elderpark Housing Association and Linthouse Housing Association. But that really is only part of the story of the man.
John lived his values. Walking through Govan with him and David, his partner, would take time. He would be greeted by previous constituents with a nod or wave of acknowledgement, stopping every so often for a brief update. He was the embodiment of a local committed politician; someone who genuinely cared.
The same generosity was afforded to C-Change. His focus was the impact the organisation was making in the lives of the people we work for and ensuring that C-Change was a great place to work. He believed in fairness, equality and human rights. He championed those who are often silenced. He expected us to do our best, as he did. We will miss him, and we know a great many others will too. We send our love and condolences to David and his family.
