Brave New World
Right To Better
Starting anything new is a step into a Brave New World. Growing better not bigger means
looking at things from fresh perspectives and working in a dynamic, agile and person-centred way. When C-Change were approached by a family regarding support for their son, it was agreed that the best way forward would be to start a new small supports project, and so Right to Better was born.
Since then it has very much flourished as its own entity, whilst still being part of C-Change. Right to Better has forged new relationships with community and partner organisations such as Perth and Kinross council and is currently supporting two people to live their good lives.
Personal development worker Ross believes it’s the culture of Why Not? Instead of Why? That gives Right to Better the space to try new approaches and ensure that decision making stays as close to the Person We Work For as possible at all times.
There will undoubtedly be changes in the coming years which will bring challenges and
opportunities as we integrate and embed ourselves in the communities we live and work in but a huge amount has been achieved in a short space of time. We are hopeful and excited to see it continue to flourish.
Here is a poem inspired by one of the Right to Better teams which highlights the importance of matching, relationship building and that #NotAllSocialCareIsTheSame
Go, if you want to
Go, if you want to
He’s walking along West Sands beach
with the sand caressing the soles of his feet
the waves lap gently, the sun shimmers down
of all the places he’s loved, this is the jewel in
the crown.
There’s a pull, a need to run but he hesitates
the crash of waves, the way the water breaks
he turns to his companion waiting for ‘no’
instead she tells him, if you want to Go!
And go he does into the splash of the shore
kicking up sea spray, pebbles galore.
This body that’s 200 parkruns high
has nursed bees back to life, saved spiders
and flies
studies scripture and music and cycles for
miles
‘you can’t be around him without wanting to
smile’
So Go, if you want to feel the sea on your
face
embrace peace or joy in this happy place.
