Human Rights Consortium Scotland reports to the UN on Scotland’s Human Rights Record

Every 5 years, the UK’s record on human rights is reviewed by the UN Human Rights Council in a process called the Universal Periodic Review. The Human Rights Consortium Scotland, having gathered evidence and views from Scottish civil society organisations, submitted a report setting out some key concerns and priorities.

Top of these priorities is to maintain and progress our human rights legal protections. The UK Government should shelve plans to water down the Human Rights Act.

The Scottish Government must press on with plans to incorporate 4 more international rights treaties and the right to a healthy environment into Scots law. This must be done as strongly as possible, fully resourced and implemented to make rights a reality for more people in Scotland.
