The Ingredients for Supporting Good Lives

A focus on  what’s good, not what’s missing: better doesn’t have to cost more

Here are the stories of two People We Work for: Ryan and Andrew in their own words. Both hold something very dear to them, something that has become a vital component of living their good lives and it might not be what you think.

Ryan tells us that his dog Cooper has changed his life immeasurably: full of love and energy, he tells us what it means to live in his own home and spend time with his wee ‘mini cooper’. He describes his life having ‘pounced upwards’ just like his fabulous wee best pal.

Andrew is a talented writer, the past year he has worked hard to hone his skills and share his writing with others in the community. He has signed up for not one but two university writing courses and regularly attends a local writers’ group. He is growing in confidence, sharing his work and being part of a thriving writing community.

It brings home to us that it is the ingredients of your life, those wee additions that give a sense of excitement and flavour to the everyday, that are the most important thing.

Living good lives will look different for each person, it seems an obvious statement to make but a dog and a pen (or laptop) are the vital components for Andrew and Ryan to live the life they choose. That, and an organisation and team who understand their significance and support people to live life on their terms.
