The Power of Language
Some words are only every used in ‘Serviceland’. C-Change supports people in their own homes, in their communities to live their good life.
A good rule of thumb is, if you wouldn’t use language in your own life, don’t use it in your support.
Here is a simple example: If you are fortunate to have an extra bedroom in your home, what is it called, ‘the back room’, ‘the spare room’?
If you work for someone who has an extra bedroom in their home, what do you call it?
If you call it the sleepover room you may want to consider how you would feel if someone renamed a room in your home just because they used it, occasionally.
This is an example of power over a person; of services taking over a person’s home.
What should you do to rebalance this to power with the person?
