Aberdeen Social History Project

Published: July 10, 2015

We had an amazing day in Aberdeen for our Social History Creative Workshop mid-June with the inclusive arts organisation Project Ability. Our fabulous participants created some impressive artwork and shared their memories of when they stayed in a long stay institution.

At the event two old friends met again for the first time in over 25 years! Sandy and James (Pictured top right) hadn’t seen each other since leaving Ladysbridge hospital in the early 90s. A friendship rekindled!

We are hoping to run more events like this in Aberdeen so keep an eye on our facebook page for further updates: facebook.com/cchangescotland

“Love & Friends Matter” Conference In Bradford

dates-n-mates had the pleasure of attending the Love and Friends Matter conference in Bradford that was put together by Luv2MeetYou, a friendship and dating organisation for people with Learning Difficulties based in Yorkshire. The dates-n-mates team were joined by two members, Lorraine and John in attending the conference.

People came from all over the UK to talk about supporting people with learning difficulties with friendship and dating – from a similar organisation called Stars in The Sky based down in London all the way to dates-n-mates Aberdeen!

The dates-n-mates team learned a lot and met loads of great people and will use everything learned to make dates-n-mates even better!

dates-n-mates Director Holly Millar told us:

“I found the conference very helpful and learned lots of new ideas which could help dates-n-mates. Everyone I met there were really friendly and welcoming – it was a great experience.”
