New Zealand Visitors to C-Change Glasgow Base
We were delighted to welcome two visitors from New Zealand on the morning of Wednesday 25th of July.
Zandra Vaccarino of the New Zealand Down Syndrome Association and Christel van Baalen of the Auckland Down Syndrome Association are in Glasgow for this week’s World Down Syndrome Congress and wanted to meet up with C-Change and dates-n-mates while they are here.
C-Change Support Advisors Clare and Tara met the two ladies who were interested in discussing the champion support we do around the self direct support model. It was great to discuss the differences internationally in how the self directed model is implemented (or in some cases not). It was also interesting to hear the different approaches in making sure people human rights are met when it comes to support.
They went over our matching process for recruitment, person centred planning and many other relevant areas of interest.
John Paul and Lesley from dates-n-mates Glasgow also met with our visitors. They were interested to hear about how dates-n-mates started, how it is funded, how we screen volunteers and what kind of activities dates-n-mates offer.
A huge welcome to Scotland to both Zandra and Christel!
We wish them and everyone attending the World Down Syndrome Congress (#WDSCongress) a wonderful stay in Glasgow.
