dates-n-mates is Scotland’s first national dating and friendship agency run by and for adults with learning disabilities.
Since 2008 dates-n-mates in Glasgow has offered its members a regular programme of social events in a safe, friendly and inclusive environment. Open to anyone aged over 18 who has a learning disability, we create opportunities for people to connect, make friends and develop meaningful relationships. This in turn helps to reduce loneliness and social isolation and increase members’ confidence and self-esteem in the rest of their lives.
Building on the success of dates-n-mates Glasgow and the knowledge gained from that project, dates-n-mates today also has branches in Aberdeen and Renfrewshire. Together, the 3 branches comprise dates-n-mates Scotland.
Each branch offers its own lively local programme of events, ranging from regular bowling nights, meals out and walking groups to special events such as Valentines Parties and our annual ‘We’ve Got Talent’ event. In addition, members can also take part in matched dating and training on relationships, sexual health and social etiquette.
Our innovative dates-n-mates project was directly referenced in The Keys to Life, the Scottish Government’s 10-year learning disability strategy and in 2017 received both the Scottish Social Services Award for ‘Courage to Take a Risk’ and the Scottish Charity Award for ‘Pioneering Project.
