The Journey, Not The Destination
When it’s the journey that’s important not the destination.
whether it’s how you get to the shops
or visit those who love you lots
a picnic or a beautiful view
it’s the journey that’s important to you.
Take me north, or east, or west
somewhere I said I like best
to a loch, or hill, or some place new
let’s board the bus just me and you.
Because it matters little where we end up
as long as we go by train, or bus,
let’s not waste a single day
there’s adventures to be found when you voyage my way .
How we get to where we are going is often as important, or in the case of Abby, more important than where we are going.
This year we have heard many stories from People We Work For accessing public transport for the first time. This may seem an insignificant thing to some, but the impact has been far reaching.
There can be many reasons why accessing public transport can be difficult – not least the joys of incomprehensible timetables and cancelled services, the noise, the unpredictability – but that aside it provides a vital link for people to access both their local communities and places further afield.
As a self confessed busaholic I adore travelling by public transport: I love the people you meet, the changing scenery and I have to admit I love taking the long way round most of the time. I suppose it’s the writer in me – travelling by bus is a great way to find ideas for new characters, observe dialogue and give yourself time and space to form ideas and plots.
Someone who understands this more than most is Abby who would tell you that accessing the bus and being able to travel to where she wants to go has been one of the great joys of the last year.
Abby has travelled far and wide this year: to lochs and villages to have a picnic or a picturesque fish and chips, she’s visited new places and enjoyed mini breaks in places like Fort William.
I am delighted that Abby is enjoying a life full of journeys and adventures and it reminds us what a vital service transport is in accessing and opening up opportunities and spaces to find adventure and joy.
